Parking lots to shelter from rocket fire in Tel Aviv
Walla!News

Tel Aviv - Jaffa municipality intends to allocate fifty underground parking lots around the city to be used as emergency shelters.

This plan is the possible solution to the problem of the shelters in the city, where many of them are neglected, unused and locked, and frequently critiqued due to the non-evacuation of the strategic facilities from the center, the heart of the densely civil society, including Kiryat base and the Ministry of "Defense".

Now, the municipality decided to map the public areas on its territory and assign it to the residents during emergencies, near their houses or workplaces. Mayor Ron Huldai, praised the owners of the parking lots who committed to the plan 7.

During the conference held Sunday with the participation of representatives from the Home Front Command, the municipality presented the protection plan for the parking lots' managers and owners. Municipality of Tel Aviv - Jaffa says that this is a first meeting to be held, where the landowners participated in the emergency municipal assessment. It was reported that the emergency plan was presented to them for the protection of the city from rocket fire. The deadline of the parking lot protection plan was not stated.

The conference was attended by representatives of fifty underground parking lots in the city; their area was estimated to total more than 800 thousand square meters, and complied with HFC standards as emergency protection shelters. It is a matter of large parking lots, including the new central bus station parking lot, the podium parking, Spring Towers parking, City Towers at Menachem Begin Boulevard parking, Toyota Towers parking lot, the parking lot below the Dizengoff Mall Center, museum and Golda tower parking, Tel Aviv Towers parking, Sonol tower parking, Etidem Towers parking lot, Rubinstein Tower parking lot and the parking of garage opera.

Last year a new building was inaugurated at Ichilov Hospital (Sourasky) that can be devolved into a center of emergency. The new heart center, named after Sammy Ofer , is designed to accommodate the hospital's Heart system, and intake all the departments and units dealing with the heart, blood vessels and brain.

It would be amazing to establish the most modern and fortified center facing the Kirya base campus, a place that might be actually exposed to a missile attack in a future war. However, hospital managers ensured at the solemn ceremony that was held there, that the department can function independently over several days. The underground car parking includes four floors, and cars can be evacuated during an emergency, to give some space for hospitalized patients who are in internal medicine departments.

"IDF" trackers nabbed in drug sting on Egypt border
Ma'ariv - Achikam Moshe David, Uri Binder

Twelve soldiers in the "Israeli" army and three "Israeli" citizens are accused of leaking sensitive operational information to drug dealers from Sinai. This is what was posted yesterday after a secret investigation was conducted by the Central Unit of Special Investigations in the "IDF" Criminal Investigation Division.
Investigators suspect "IDF" trackers serving in the Gaza Division and the "Edom" Division, transmitted in recent months detailed information on "IDF" patrols and ambushes along the "Israel"-Egypt border to enable the smuggling of the drugs into "Israel".

It is suspected that the trackers directed the smuggling operations through phone calls, text messages and even direct encounters
According to a source tied to the case, one of the soldiers admitted the transfer of information to drug dealers for $1000 and revealed the whereabouts of troops in the sector.
The investigation initiated after the commander of the southern region, "Tal Rousseau," ordered to focus on drug trafficking in areas where there is no fence. During the investigation, military police used an undercover agent to engage in contact with the soldiers - 9 of whom were specialist "IDF" trackers and other three soldiers serve at the 2 divisions Gaza and the 80th Edom.

The suspects were arrested at the end of one smuggling operation that took place on June 15. During the transaction, two kilograms of heroin, half a kilogram of cocaine, sevem kilograms of hashish and more than 1000 hallucination pills were sold. They were hidden in the spare tire of a vehicle. These deals blew up the whole case. Then an initial arrest was carried out, and after the bombing that blasted at the Egyptian borders, other suspects were arrested.

An additional drug case

The investigation was done in cooperation with by the "Magen" unit of the "Israel" Police. After the arrest the soldiers were referred to trial in military court in the south, and soon they are expected to be charged. Three "Israeli" civilians are involved in the case too.

It is the 2nd dangerous drugs case to be revealed on the southern border. Several months ago, an "Israeli" army officer from the Operations Branch of the Gaza Division, who was supposed to be responsible for the drugs that were confiscated at the border, was arrested for smuggling drugs to criminals. The commander of the Special Investigations Unit in the "Israeli" army, Gen. "Gil Mamnoun" said that during the operation NIS 800 thousand were confiscated. He said: "The soldiers were arrested, interrogated and they confessed." The commander of the Protection Unit, Major "Noam Kaiser," said yesterday that "the bombing near the Kedash Berna was a catalyst for the arrests." A senior source in the military police added that, "The more the process of building the fence at the Egyptian border hastened, the more drug trafficking lessened."

The arrest of trackers and the soldiers who serve in the southern sector lead to major upheaval in the "Israeli" army. In recent years, the trackers affiliated to the Southern Command, led by Colonel "Yossi Haddad" implemented the most difficult task to protect Israel's borders with Gaza and Egypt. A high-level military side said in this regard that the fact the "Israeli" army is uncovering these issues shows the seriousness and the maturity of the issue.

In this context, the lawyer , Dana Nov, who represents one of the defendants said, "My client does not have any connection to drug trafficking, breaching state security or leaking such information to third parties, and others. He is considered a superior soldier who is appreciated by his leaders, serving in an important and difficult position and does not serve in the Gaza Division. He was accused of acts he did not commit, and was linked to this case unjustly. "
In his turn, the lawyer, Yossi Lin, who represents the other defendant said, " My client is a distinguished soldier, he received two certificates of excellence after revealing two bombs in Gaza. He does not have anything to do with the case."

"IDF" tests different sounding sirens for chemical weapon attack
Lilach Shoval

The IDF Home Front Command conducted two experiments in the past month to test a new siren in case of a chemical weapon attack against "Israel". The siren would emit a different sound than the conventional siren people are accustomed to, and would signal an incoming missile fired at Israel armed with a chemical warhead. The drills were held at "Home Front Command" headquarters in Ramle.

The Home Front Command said the idea was to allow people to differentiate between different types of attacks and respond accordingly. If indeed a "chemical" siren was sounded, people would know to don their gas masks, which have been distributed to the public in recent months. The fact that geographic siren zones have been re-designated in recent years increases the chances that eventually the decision will be made to install unique sirens for different threats.
A source in the "Home Front Command" said that a number of different sounds and methods were tested for the new siren. One of the options was a verbal siren, similar to what is used to warn civilians in communities located near the Gaza Strip, in which people hear the words "Color Red" when a rocket is fired. The problem with a "verbal siren" is that it may reach fewer people.

In recent days the Population Department of the "Home Front Command" has been analyzing the results of the experiments, and it is likely that further tests with more sounds will be held. In the meantime, the regular siren will be used in case of a rocket or missile attack.

The idea for a different siren to be used in case of an unconventional attack is not new. Theoretical experiments were conducted in the past as well, but the decision was made to sound the regular siren along with sending instructions to people's cell phones.

The subject of a chemical attack has been a source of serious concern to the defense establishment in general and the "IDF" specifically in recent months, mainly due to Syria's chemical weapons arsenal. The concern is that the fragile situation in Syria opens the door for "terrorist" organizations, namely Hizbullah, to get their hands on unconventional weapons.
Sources from within "Israel's" military establishment have said on numerous occasions that the transfer of chemical weapons to Hizbullah would change the rules of the game, and could even be seen as a casus belli.
