Lebanon's Higher Islamic Shiaa Council called Wednesday on the cabinet to assume its responsibilities and resolve the issue of financial grants and compensations of people damaged in the July 2006 "Israeli" war against Lebanon.
In a statement it released following its regular meeting headed by its deputy head Sheikh Abdul Amir Qabalan, the Council expressed its deep astonishment and surprise for the "unjustified" act of spending the compensations money, urging the cabinet to solve the issue as soon as possible to allow citizens to feel that they actually have a government that worries about them and supports their resistance and steadfastness.
Meanwhile, the Council called the national dialogue committee to accelerate its talks to reach a final formula for the country's defense strategy, stressing on the need to leave this national topic away from political bidding. It called upon the "dialogue poles" to discuss the issue from the perspective of preserving Lebanon's sovereignty and independence and protecting Lebanon's land and people against the "Israeli" enemy daily threats.
The Council called on all Lebanese leaders to adopt a calming speech and reject tense and strained policies. It reiterated the necessity to establish natural and solid relations between Lebanon and its neighborhood, mainly Syria, refusing all attempts to disturb such relations.
The Higher Islamic Shiaa Council also denounced the latest "Israeli" violation of Lebanese sovereignty through kidnapping - from Lebanese territory - interrogating, torturing and then releasing two Lebanese citizens. The Council said that the "Israeli" violation was a flagrant assault on Lebanon's sovereignty and constituted another witness of the international community's silence on "Israeli" crimes. The statement concluded by calling all parties to stick firmly to the Resistance choice.
