Tyre to host cluster-munitions awareness event

The National Demining Office, along with the National Steering Committee for Mine Risk Education and Victim Assistance, is organizing a special conference on the occasion of the International Day against Cluster Munitions at the Bassel al-Assad Cultural Center in Tyre on Saturday, February 17, 2007. During the day-long conference various activities will be introduced to raise awareness against cluster bombs. Activities include puppet shows, a photo exhibition and a lottery. Meanwhile, a National News Agency (NNA) correspondent in the South reported that Mohammad Ali Kourani, 20, was wounded after a cluster bomb exploded near him in the village of Maryamin, near the town of Bint Jbeil on Friday. Kourani was rushed to the Tyre Public Hospital, where he underwent surgery for his foot, the NNA report added.
