The Supreme Court of Justice in ‘Israel' rejected a petition filed in objection to the release of Lebanese detainee Samir Kintar as part of a high-profile prisoner swap deal with Lebanese party Hizbullah.
The petition was filed by the family of ‘Israeli' policeman Eliahy Shachar, who was killed by Kintar and his comrades in 1979 in an operation in the coastal city of Naharaya.
The ‘Israeli' Jerusalem Post quoted a high-ranking military source as saying that the ‘Israeli' Army is not putting high hopes on receiving detailed information on the fate of ‘Israeli' combat pilot Ron Arad, whose plane was shot down over the Lebanese city of Saida in 1986. Hizbullah had promised to submit a report on Arad's fate through the UN-appointed German mediator.
"The report, though lacking additional information, will not obstruct the prisoner swap deal," the source told the paper.
It also noted that the deal will probably take place after July 12, which is the commemoration of the start of the 2006 ‘Israeli' war against Hizbullah.
