AITA AL SHAAB: Families of Lebanese prisoners held in 'Israeli' jails have started preparing for the return of their loved ones following the 'Israeli' Cabinet's approval a prisoner swap on Sunday. Mohammad Abdel Hamid Srour's 60-year-old mother Sobhieh has been waiting for her son's return for almost two years now. Srour, now 21, was captured by the 'Israeli' Army during the 2006 war.
Sobhieh Srour told The Daily Star that she knew in her heart that her son would return, as promised by Hizbullah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. Nasrallah's portrait hangs from the wall of her temporarily home in Aita al-Shaab, a Southern town close to the 'Israeli' border. Her own house lies in ruins, completely destroyed by the 'Israeli' military during the same war in which her son became a prisoner.
After waiting so long, she added, all she wants now is to hold her son in her arms.
Three-year-old Hassan Kourani, son of Maher Kourani, has been wandering around his Southern village of Yater, brandishing his father's portrait and waiting for his return. He barely knows anything about his father, only the tales of bravery and heroism told to him by his mother. Kourani was also a Hizbullah fighter who was captured during the 2006 war.
Kourani's wife Israa was taking care of all the preparations concerning her husband's return when The Daily Star visited. She said she always expected her husband would end up being a martyr.
She added that she had been in constant contact with Nasrallah, who had told her to remain patient, and reassured her that her husband would return soon.
Other Southern towns and villages are getting ready to celebrate by putting up banners representing Samir Kontar, held since 1979, and reasserting their support for the resistance.
