Final "Israeli" Lebanon war report to spare Olmert

The final report of an "Israeli" government commission investigating the failures of last year`s Lebanon war will not recommend the dismissal of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, media said on Tuesday. "Olmert will be harshly criticized in the report, but there will be no recommendation to dismiss him," wrote the "Israeli" Yediot Aharonot in comments echoed by other media. The Winograd Commission issued in April a damning interim report over the war against Lebanon in July-August 2006, roasting Olmert, former defense minister Amir Peretz and ex-chief of staff Dan Halutz. Its final report is expected to be released later this year.
"The report will focus only on practical conclusions and will present a series of faults which have to be put right," Yediot wrote. This expresses the position adopted by the committee chairman, retired judge Eliyahu Winograd.
