Al Quds -More than 4000 Palestinian teenagers under 18 are being held in Zionist regime prisons since the start of uprising (Intifada) in 2000, Alalam TV correspondent reported Friday.
According to the report, 90 percent of these children and teenagers are tortured both physically and mentally daily which has caused sever illnesses and injuries to many of them. No treatments are done for them.
A number of 312 children, among them 12 girls are now suffering Zionist regime prisons without any trials or evidences to prove them guilty, the report says. Some of these children are sentenced to life imprisonment and heavy fines are imposed to their families as well.
An attorney from the movement of supporting Palestinian children, Khalid Qozmar told Alalam that according to the available statistics, in 2007 more than 60% of Palestinian children have been sentenced to more than three years in prisons.
He remarked Zionist regime violations against children and teenagers in the prisons and said that their continuous efforts for realizing these children from the suffering condition which day face daily has been futile." Though the occupiers don`t regret the horrible condition these children are facing, we will continue to our efforts for realizing them," he said.
"Life imprisonment for children is against all international and human and children right laws."
Palestinian children comprise over 50% of the population of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
The arrest, interrogation and imprisonment of Palestinian children in the West Bank, by "Israeli" military forces, police officers and other "Israeli" security personnel, is not a new phenomenon. The regime has been continuously arresting and prosecuting children since its occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip in 1967.
During the First Intifada, children were arrested and detained in mass numbers for stone throwing and other forms of political resistance. During the Second Intifada, "Israel" began to use administrative detention against Palestinian children and convicted and imprisoned children under the age of 14 years for periods of up to 6 months.
