Hamas warned on Monday will only release an "Israeli" occupation soldier captured by Palestinian resistance fighters in 2006 if "Israel" accepts all the conditions set by the Islamic resistance movement that rules the Gaza Strip.
"The 'Israeli' soldier Gilad Shalit will not be released if 'Israel' does not accept all our conditions," Mahmud al-Zahar, a senior Hamas leader in Gaza told a crowd gathered to protest "Israel's" assault on the impoverished territory. "If you want to close this chapter, release the (Palestinian) detainees," Zahar said.
Shalit was captured in June 2006 on the edge of the Gaza Strip by three Palestinian resistance groups, including the armed wing of Hamas. In April Hamas sent to "Israel", through Egypt, a list of 450 detainees it wants freed in exchange for Shalit. But an "Israeli" official said at the time many of the Palestinian detainees had "blood on their hands," meaning they had been involved in attacks that killed "Israelis", and could not be released.
