The Follow-up Committee for the Support of Palestinian Detainees in "Israeli" Prisons sent an open letter to Information Minister Ghazi Aridi on Monday, criticizing TŽlŽ Liban for weak coverage of the 28th anniversary of the arrest of Samir Qantar, the longest-held Lebanese detainee in Israel.
"Samir Qantar`s ceremony coincided with the commemoration of the passing of 12 years since the imprisonment of Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea, who was accused of perpetrating the explosion of Saydet al-Najat Church and other crimes in the heinous civil war," the letter said.
The committee condemned TŽlŽ Liban for not concentrating more on "a humanitarian cause such as the issue of Samir Qantar and the detainees, while it transmitted live, and for 15 minutes, Geagea`s ceremony." Mohammed Safa, the committee`s secretary-general, asked Aridi to "investigate this media scandal, which barely mentioned a hero held in the "Israeli" prisons, while it focused on those whose hands are stained with the blood of the Lebanese people."
