Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast declared the possibilities of a war in the Persian Gulf and the Middle East are weak.
"There is a faint possibility that a war will be waged in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf, said Mehmanparast in a Thursday meeting with university students and professors in Belgrade, Serbia.
Mehmanparast highlighted the West's discriminatory stance and attitude to developments in the Middle East following the wave of Islamic Awakening and said, "The West's interests in the Middle East region have been jeopardized."
"The West seeks to cause conflict in the region and instability among regional countries, but the Islamic Republic of Iran is interested in stability and security of the Persian Gulf and the Middle East," Mehmanparast pointed out.
As for the main source of tension and insecurity, the Iranian official identified it as the foreign military presence in the region, noting that such a possibility could to disappear once all foreign forces leave the area, reported the Iranian news agency.
