Self Sacrifice Martyr: Ammar Hammoud

Who is he?

Ammar, originally from the Southern village of Debbin, was born in Bir Al Abed in the Beirut Southern Suburb on the20th of December 1979. His parents named him Ammar after Ammar Bin Yasser, one of the prophet's companions. During his childhood, Ammar was very active and lively, he was never seen tired of playing or moving around. He was raised up in a religious family and was the friend of his father who was an officer in the Lebanese Army.

Ammar finished his elementary and intermediate education in the Saint Joseph school, and graduated from the Haret Hreik public school where he finished his secondary years. He then joined the resistance. At the age of 14, martyr Hammoud started praying and fasting, he had started going to the mosque with his father for prayers at the age of 7.

He kept pace in reading the supplications and dua'as, (especially Dua'a Kumail, Tawassol, Nudba, and Ziyarat Ashura.)
Ammar was lenient and merciful, yet he was serious when needed. He would joke around with his family and make them laugh. His flexible personality qualified him for leadership roles, especially on the level of administration and execution. Also, the fact that he was a guide in the Mahdi scouts earlier at school.

In Battlefield:

With all what he had learned from the scouts, the religious school, and the mosque, he followed the lead of his brother who had attained martyrdom four years earlier.
On the 30th of December 1999, coinciding with the 23rd of the Holy month of Ramadan 1420 Hijri, martyr Ammar -in his car loaded with 250 kilograms of explosives- raided a Zionist patrol that included a truck, to military jeeps, and a Hummer twenty meters away from the Dimashkiye- Marjeyoun triangle. On that Qadr night, when he exploded his car, the entire convoy was destroyed and all the soldiers were killed.
