Hizbullah Secretary General His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah delivered a televised speech on Tuesday, commemorating the fifth anniversary of the Divine Victory achieved by the Mujahideen in July 2006.
Sayyed Nasrallah addressed the tremendous popular crowds, politicians from different affiliations, religious scholars and other figures gathered at the "Dignity and Victory" Festival at al-Raya stadium in Beirut's Southern Suburb through the giant tv screen. Sayyed Nasrallah shed light on the victories of the July war 2006, and the huge effect it had on the "Israeli' enemy. He also stressed Lebanon's rights in its maritime assets, warning "Israel" from approaching these riches that belong to Lebanon and its people.
Hizbullah leader first recalled a few verses of the Holy Quran, thanking God for the divine victory he bestowed upon the resistance and its people. Like every year, he addressed the souls and families of the martyrs, the wounded, and the captives as well as the people who were inflicted by the war, or others, who supported the Resistance, with a few words of gratitude and thanks. "In the beginning, I commend you all and thank you for attending this anniversary, which marks the divine victory. I would like to praise the families of the martyrs of the Resistance and Lebanese army. I salute the people who were displaced as well as the states, parties, individuals and organizations [who supported us] and stood behind Lebanon to achieve this victory," His Eminence said.
Sayyed Nasrallah then recalled the days of the war in 2006, noting that one of the major elements that led to the divine victory was determination, mutual trust and faith, as well as steadfastness on the different levels, whether political, military, resistance or popular. He added that "If we return to the phase of the war, it would be to take as an example for the future."
Sayyed Nasrallah assured that the steadfastness of thousands of Mujahideen was a real miracle, as they fought and resisted for 33 consecutive days, while the skies rained rockets and houses fell apart around them "The fighters who had no aerial support, were resisting in all Lebanese areas and were capable of confronting [Israel] as everything around them was being destroyed," he explained.
Sayyed Nasrallah described this steadfastness as legendary, and assured this was an element of strength. "The War constituted a smashing victory of the Resistance and the defeat of the [Israelis]. In that war, there was a resistance, that of Lebanese army, security forces and especially the resistance of the Hizbullah fighters that constituted a real miracle," Sayyed Nasrallah reiterated.
Moving on to the counterpart, the "Israeli" enemy started its war with arrogance, which soon turned into anxiety and the collapse of trust among the ranks of the "Israeli" soldiers and leaders.
Sayyed Nasrallah said that the most important factor or effect of the July war was the shaking of trust in the "Israeli" army, which was once thought to be indomitable. "In parallel, the "Israeli" enemy launched the war on Lebanon with arrogance... but "Israel" soon became confused, weak, frustrated and lacking in confidence in its army's ranks, the government and people. We can talk about the collapse of "Israel's" confidence and its deterioration," Hizbullah leader added. On the other hand, he said this also led to the increase in trust in the resistance and this choice of resistance in Lebanon and the Arab world. This, Sayyed Nasrallah said, "is a psychological and strategic factor in determining the future picture of the current conflict in the region, as we see that since the end of the July war, "Israel" supported by the US has put a set of goals in order to retrieve its confidence and capabilities on the political and military levels."
Hizbullah SG pointed out that the "Israelis" are making efforts on military levels, including with training, empowerment of their artillery and other efforts to fill gaps, adding "The goal of these maneuvers is to train their people on how to act in case war occurs."
One of these goals is to restore confidence back to the "Israeli" community, Sayyed said. He added that there has been a huge military effort through maneuvers and drills, as well as development of weapons and finding military solutions for the rockets targeting what is "way beyond Hayfa" to restore this lost and shaken confidence.
"Did this succeed? I look at the polls conducted by the "Israelis" and see that they admit there are still gaps and issues unsolved," he wondered. Recalling the "Israeli" maneuver Turning Point 5, Sayyed Nasrallah said these drills imply two things, first is that the "Israeli" command is telling its people that it is not capable of protecting the domestic front, while the second is that in any coming war, there no longer is an internal front and fore front, there is one front only.
As for the second factor, Sayyed Nasrallah said it is based on the media. "Some "Israelis" have made huge efforts to restore the confidence while others have started to minimize the results of the July war. At first, the "Israelis" said they messed up during the 2006 July war. Nevertheless, now they have started to look for "positive and important" outcomes," he said.
Sayyed Nasrallah went on to say, "I will take the example of Shimon Peres, the head of the state, who said that two achievements were made during the July War: The first was making me hide in a shelter, and the second was they were capable of protecting the northern borders of the occupied Palestinian territories."
"When the Winograd committee was established, Peres said that the world supports them (Israel) because ‘we were weak'... and that "Israel" has lost deterrence," Sayyed said commenting further that making someone hide in a shelter was not of the war's goals.
Also, and as the "Israelis" themselves admitted, none of the goals of "Israel's" war succeeded, Sayyed Nasrallah said, adding "Their goal was to weaken Hizbullah, but we grew stronger. They wanted to have the captured "Israeli" soldiers back without negotiations, but that failed too."
His Eminence further said "The border between Lebanon and occupied Palestine was calm. This calm was secured thanks to the victory of the Resistance after the 25th of May 2000. Therefore, no war was required to retrieve calm at the borders."
He also noted that thanks to the resistance, it has imposed calm, and its mission is to defend its land, people, and their dignities. "The loudest voice in the "Israeli" entity is that of the generals and officers who speak of nothing but their failure during the July war. These have warned the "Israeli" government from taking part in any new adventure in face of Hizbullah," His Eminence added.
Hizbullah SG also said that tremendous efforts have been made to distort the resistance's image, its victories and goals, as millions were paid to carry out this campaign. In this context, Sayyed Nasrallah said, came the accusations against the honorable resistance fighters in the murdering of (Former PM) Rafik Hariri. "Concluding this part, I would like to tell the friend and enemy that our faith cannot be shaken. It is stronger than before. I also tell you that the strength of the Resistance today in Lebanon is higher and better than any other time since its establishment," Sayyed Nasrallah underscored.
Hizbullah leader said that the [Israeli] enemy today is resorting to a psychological war, as they tried to promise the Lebanese with surprising in any coming war, but these trials are doomed to failure. "Israel" is trying to restore its confidence. "The enemy was surprised that the Resistance has advanced weapons. I tell the "Israelis" to listen to their generals who experienced defeat in Lebanon. The "Israelis will only taste defeat in Lebanon," His Eminence said adding "After all the developments and events, if someone asks me, ‘Are you ready to repeat the phrase that you keep saying?' I tell you that knowing this enemy and knowing my people, ‘Like I promised you victory before, I promise you victory again."
As for the second topic, Sayyed Nasrallah discussed the oil issue between Lebanon and the Palestinian Occupied territory. "The Lebanese have a real chance that Lebanon becomes a rich country, as it possesses tremendous maritime assets, oil and gas," His Eminence said.
He added that these riches are not for a certain sect or party, these constitute natural and national riches which are estimated by billions of dollars. Sayyed Nasrallah highlighted that this is chance that the Lebanese improve their living standards and pay their depts. "The Lebanese people should know that they are dealing with a golden opportunity. Lebanon today has national assets in its regional waters. There are official reports that say we have hundreds of billions of dollars' worth of natural assets in our waters. If the Lebanese knew how to act and dealt with this issue without immaturity and responsibly, we have the opportunity to pay our debts and improve our economy," he said.
Hizbullah Leader also called on those who want Lebanese expatriates to return to their homeland, be it the current government, the Lebanese parliament, to work hard to give them this chance.
Sayyed Nasrallah explained that the "Israeli" enemy claims around 850 kilometers of the maritime borders in which the oil assets exist as "Israeli", but in fact these are Lebanese. His Eminence assured that "Israel" has no right what-so-ever to excavate the oil and gas. Hizbullah Secretary General called on the government to swiftly act in order to draw the maritime borders and start work at the appropriate time. He added that the government should work with this sensitive file as that of national priority.
"I can confidently say that Lebanon is capable of protecting its oil and gas installations, because we will avenge any attack on these installations and they know that Lebanon is capable of doing that. We warn the "Israelis" against carrying out any act that may lead to stealing Lebanon's resources out of its territorial waters," Sayyed Nasrallah assured.
In conclusion, Sayyed Nasrallah addressed the people saying "We call on the Lebanese people to support the government in this major national challenge, because (oil and gas) excavation would benefit all the Lebanese. I tell the friends and the foes that Lebanon will rely on all the elements of strength in order to regain its natural resources, and the most important element is the army-people-Resistance formula."
