Mofaz: Recent Regional Developments Have Direct Effect on “Israel”, STL

Zionist Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee chairman Shaul Mofaz said that the Egyptian stability present for the previous 30 years represents the "Israeli" goal on the regional level.

Mofaz added that the Egyptian pro-regime [Husni Mubarak's] represents sanctuary, referring it is the army's responsibility to help maintaining power.

Shaul Mofaz added that the recent events in Egypt set questions regarding possible scenarios, referring that in one of the scenarios, Mubarak will succeed in tackling the "riots".

The Zionist Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee chairman believed that the second choice is bias, where Egypt enters a phase of chaos in which the army refuses to confront the protests and decides to take over the power.

The Zionist official stated that the choice would be in Mubarak's decision to resign.

Mofaz pointed out that the events in Egypt and Tunisia represents a strategic warning to "Israel", adding that the year 2011 will be a transitional year, where he stepped into the recent developments in Lebanon after the new governmental step.

In this context, Mofaz confirmed this has direct effect on "Israel" and on the Special Tribunal for Lebanon over PM Rafiq Hariri's assassination.
