On Tuesday, May 15th, hundreds of people are expected to gather in front of the White House at 6:30pm to commemorate the Nakba, marking the 64th anniversary of Palestinian dispossession.
Activists Mark al-Nakba on May 15..Before the White House 64 years ago, over 700,000 Palestinians were driven from their homes with the creation of "Israel", and hundreds of Palestinian towns and villages were razed.
Nora Burgan, one of the event organizers, said "as long as there is no
acknowledgment of the Nakba or justice for the Palestinians who lost their homes, the memory of the tragedy will remain imbedded for generations to come."
The event will include poetry, testimonials of survivors, reading of razed village names, and a mobile art exhibit entitled "Faces of Nakba."
Students on a hunger strike, in solidarity with the hundreds of Palestinian hunger-striking prisoners who have been detained without charge or trial, will also attend the commemorative event.
