Iran has strongly condemned earlier strikes by the United States and the United Kingdom against Yemen that killed and injured dozens of people across the Arab Peninsula nation.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kan’ani voiced the condemnation on Friday after American and British warplanes and US warships targeted the western Yemeni provinces of Sana’a, al-Hodeidah, and Ta’izz, martyring at least 16 people and wounding more than 40 others.

The official reminded that the strikes had coincided with the two Western countries’ “unlimited support” for the “Israeli” entity’s ongoing war of genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Such attacks, he added, sought to “expand insecurity across the region” and prevent the Yemeni people’s “honorable support” for the oppressed Palestinian nation.

American and British forces have been carrying out attacks against Yemen to try to force it to stop its pro-Palestinian operations against "Israeli" vessels or those heading towards the ports of the occupied Palestinian territories.

Kan’ani considered continued violation of Yemen’s sovereignty and territorial integrity to be “a clear example” of contravention of the international laws and regulations and infringement upon the human rights.

“The aggressive American and British governments bear responsibility for the repercussions of these atrocities against the Yemeni people,” he asserted.

The spokesperson urged the international community and organizations as well as the world’s Muslim countries to act on their legal and humanitarian responsibilities towards the Yemeni people, lending them support and opposing the US and the UK’s “provocative and adventuristic” measures in the region.
