Lebanon Registers 173 New COVID-19 Cases, 5 More Related Deaths

Lebanon recorded 173 coronavirus cases and five deaths in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry said Tuesday.

The new cases brought the total number of coronavirus infections in Lebanon since the virus was first detected in the country in February 2020 to 541,801, along with a total of 7,774 deaths.

The cases, out of which eight were discovered among travelers from abroad, were found in 16,227 tests, with a two-week positivity rate of 2 percent.

The Health Ministry report showed 179 individuals were in hospital with the virus, along with 92 patients in intensive care wards and 26 people on ventilators.

The report also detailed that 14,225 first-stage vaccine jabs were administered, taking the toll to 567,513, or 11.9 percent, of the eligible population. Another 6,764 vaccinations were administered as second-stage jabs, bringing the total to 294,048, or 6.2 percent of eligible population.
