Lebanon Registers 2,296 New Coronavirus Cases, 36 Related Deaths

Lebanon registered 2,296 new coronavirus cases and 36 more related deaths in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry said Tuesday.

The cases were detected among 20,974 tests, with only 27 cases found among travelers arriving at Beirut’s Rafik Hariri International Airport.

The average positivity rate throughout the last two weeks stood at 16.5 percent.

The total number of cases since the virus was first detected in the country on February 21, 2020, rose to 482,798, according to figures released by the Health Ministry.

The total number of fatalities now stands at 6,479.

According to statistics provided by the Health Ministry, 2,065 patients are currently hospitalized for COVID-19 and related complications, with 885 in the ICU and 258 requiring ventilators.

The Health Ministry also reported that 3,916 first-stage jabs and 2,780 second-round vaccinations were administered in the past 24 hours, bringing the cumulative number of inoculations since the February 14 onset to 163,692 first-stage and 92,032 second-stage jabs so far.

The Health Ministry announced that there are plans underway to amend the “gap” in the administering and circulation of vaccination certificates for those in Lebanon who are fully inoculated.
