Lebanon registered 42 new coronavirus-related deaths and 2,968 more cases in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry said Sunday, as the country prepared to ease restrictions to contain the disease.

Unlike previous reports, the Health Ministry did not give any details on number of PCR tests conducted or hospitalizations.

The total number of cases since the virus was first detected in the country on Feb. 21, 2020 rose to 439,543, while total number of fatalities now stands at 5,757.

The Health Ministry report did not mention any new vaccinations as the inoculation campaign pauses over the weekend. The total number of people who have received one dose is 106,734, and the total number of second dose vaccines administered since the Feb.14 inoculation stands at 42,696.

The ministry announced Saturday the arrival of a new shipment of 53,820 Pfizer jabs, bringing the total of vaccines received to 224,640 so far.

Lebanon plans to fully ease coronavirus restrictions Monday, as restaurants, coffee shops, gyms and indoor pools, among other businesses, are set to reopen in the last lockdown phase.
