US President Donald Trump confirmed Monday reports that Washington is edging toward the removal of Sudan from the State Sponsors of Terrorism list, in a move that could set the stage for establishing normalization ties between Khartoum and Jerusalem.

"GREAT news! New government of Sudan, which is making great progress, agreed to pay $335 MILLION to US terror victims and families," Trump wrote on Twitter.

"Once deposited, I will lift Sudan from the State Sponsors of Terrorism list. At long last, JUSTICE for the American people and BIG step for Sudan!".

Reports over the past several weeks suggested that in exchange for reaching a normalization deal with the “Israeli” entity, Sudan will be removed from the US blacklist.

An announcement on the matter could be issued within the coming days, two American officials told news agency Reuters.

Trump has said on a number of occasions that the entity is close to establishing diplomatic ties with more Arab countries, following its two landmark deals signed with the United Arab Emirates [UAE] and Bahrain.

On Sunday, before taking off from Israel to Bahrain to seal the peace treaty brokered by Washington, Secretary of the Treasury Steve Mnuchin revealed that the Trump administration is working on additional normalization deals, hoping to announce them “soon”.

Last week, a source close to the Sudanese Sovereignty Council said as reported by the Arabic-language edition of i24NEWS that after a heated discussion, the council decided to yield to US pressure and forge formal ties with the “Israeli” entity.

According to various reports, the Trump administration gave Sudan 24 hours to respond to an ultimatum demanding that Khartoum recognizes the entity and normalizes its ties with Tel Aviv in exchange for being removed from the US blacklist of terrorism supporters.
