Lebanon confirmed 457 coronavirus cases and three deaths Monday, bringing the total number of cases recorded so far to 13,155.

Of the new cases 447 were detected among the local population and 10 among travelers from abroad. A total of 126 deaths have so far been recorded due to coronavirus complications since the disease was detected in Lebanon on February 21.

A total of 5,735 PCR tests were administered in the last 24 hours.

Numbers recorded Monday marked a decrease of roughly 200 cases from last week’s record-setting numbers. However, coronavirus cases have been on a worrying upward trend over the last two weeks. Social distancing measures were abandoned in the aftermath of the Beirut Port explosion, which left around 300,000 people homeless.

Lebanon went under a stringent two-week partial lockdown Friday, due to the unprecedented surge in cases, mostly occurring through community transmissions.

Authorities warned that some hospitals have reached coronavirus patient intake capacity and that the public health situation is precarious, urging people to abide by virus prevention guidelines and to continue to wear face masks.
