“Israel” is expected to approve the construction of some 2,000 new units in the West Bank settlements later in the week, according to the Supreme Planning Board of the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories [COGAT].

Of these, 786 units will be rubber-stamped for construction, whereas 1,275 are pending various permits.

The majority of units are in the large settlement blocs in the so-called Area C, which the “Israeli” entity expects to keep under any future agreement. Moreover, the number is one thousand short of the total “Israeli” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised his supporters last week.

Also Sunday, the United Nations said that 617 Palestinian homes and structures have been razed since the beginning of 2019. This saw the displacement of 898 Palestinians.

Additionally, the report by UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs [OCHA] pointed out that “Israeli” security forces chopped down some 2,500 trees on public Palestinian land east of Nablus.

On Thursday, Netanyahu vowed to secure US recognition of “Israeli” sovereignty over all settlements in the occupied West Bank.

"We will set our final borders, bring about American recognition for ‘Israeli’ control over the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and our sovereignty over every settlement in ‘Judea and Samaria’ [West Bank]," he said.
