Syria Voices Support for Palestinians’ Right to Self-determination, Establishment of Independent State

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem expressed the country’s solidarity with the Palestinian people, reaffirming their right to self-determination as well as the establishment of an independent state.

Al-Moallem read a solidarity message during the annual meeting of the United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People on Wednesday.

The meeting aims at observing the International Day for Solidarity with the Palestinian People, which will be held on Friday.

Al-Moallem reaffirmed in his message that long decades have passed since the ‘Israeli’ occupation of Arab lands, during which the UN adopted a large number of resolutions demanding ‘Israel’ to end this occupation and withdraw from all occupied Arab lands to the line of June 4th, 1967, and establish a Palestinian state with al-Quds as its capital.

Al-Moallem added that it is regrettable that the United Nations is still unable to implement its resolutions, and oblige the ‘Israeli’ occupation authorities to stop war crimes and crimes against humanity committed systematically and the obligation to respect the international law , international humanitarian law, and human rights instruments because of the support provided by UNSC permanent members states to the Zionist entity in an extreme disregard of the international law and the resolutions of international legitimacy.

Al-Moallem stressed that decisions made by US President Donald Trump to recognize the annexation of al-Quds to the ‘Israeli’ occupation entity, and his other decision, which he called ‘Israeli’ sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan, as well as the attempt to pass and market the so-called “Deal of Century”, all come within the framework of liquidating the historical and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and the rest of the occupied Arab territories in Golan and southern Lebanon.

He indicated that it is no secret that ‘Israel’ has been supporting the terrorists and their organizations in Syria for more than eight years with the aim of weakening Syria and its role in defending the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.

Al-Moallem stressed Syria’s firm and principled stance in support of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state on all its national soil with al-Quds as its capital and guaranteeing the right of return for refugees in accordance with resolution No. 194 of 1948.
