Authorities ordered the evacuation of 300,000 people on Wednesday in the Indian state of Gujarat, as the western coast of the Indian subcontinent was observing the development of Cyclone Vayu.

Fishing boats were recalled in India and Pakistan, as more than six million people were likely to be affected.

Communities were brought some relief on Thursday after it appeared that the storm was about to skirt the coast rather than hit it head on as previously thought.

Fishermen were likely to be badly affected, while there was no exact estimate as to whether the path of the storm would eventually not meet landmass.

Last month, one million were evacuated in Eastern India ahead of cyclone Fani hitting land in West Bengal. The storm killed two.
