TEHRAN--Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Monday that the US hegemony is at the end of the rope, saying that the United Nations Security Council is also acting in a way that seems to serve just the interests of world powers.
President Ahmadinejad made the remark in a meeting with his Algerian counterpart President Abdelaziz Bouteflika in Tehran on Monday.
"The United Nations Security Council is now like a tool in the hands of the US," Ahmadinejad said adding that the US and other big powers should save their face in the UNSC instead of seeking to halt Iran's peaceful nuclear activities.
"Such outdated systems and organizations cannot help resolve regional and international challenges, therefore that is why we should introduce a new strategy for administration of the world," Ahmadinejad told visiting Algerian President.
The United Nations and other international organizations are not able to prevent massacre of innocent people in such countries as Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, Lebanon and Sudan, he said, adding that the international organizations only serve the interests of big powers.
At the meeting, the two presidents explored grounds for expansion of mutual cooperation at regional and international levels.
Iran and Algeria enjoy deeply rooted ties, said the Iranian president, adding that the two countries have many things in common with regards to regional and international issues.
The two sides also voiced their readiness to aid the Iraqi government and fight terrorism.
Their summit in Tehran is also to see the signing of several bilateral agreements in the industrial and energy fields.
The Algerian president, who previously visited Iran in 2003, will also meet later Monday with Iran's Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran and Algeria have played a significant role in resolving regional and international crises, including in Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, Afghanistan and Somalia, Ahmadinejad said.
"Close cooperation between the two Muslim states in resolving regional and global developments could help bring closer all regional nations," he added.
President Ahmadinejad lauded the stance taken by Algeria on Iran's peaceful nuclear activities and against obstacles thrown by big powers to this end. He said dialogue is the best option to resolve the issue.
He welcomed the unconditional presence of the US in Iran's nuclear talks and described it as positive move, adding that they finally understood that Iran's nuclear activities are of peaceful nature.
"They've deeply understood that Iran's peaceful nuclear program will never be halted and of course they have no choice but to keep on talking to Iran."
"Despite threats and sanctions by a number of big powers, our nation is robust and is continuing living its own life as they cannot put obstacles in the path of our progress," Ahmadinejad added, according to the state run television website.
The Algerian president, for his part, added that Algeria is determined to broaden all-out ties with Iran.
"We should make use of all existing capabilities of Islamic countries to dealing with regional and international issues and spare no effort to help restore peace and stability to Muslim countries," he added.
Close cooperation among Islamic countries would deal a serious blow to the big powers, he said, adding "I pray to God for the failure of all plots being hatched against Iran."
Algeria is a member of the Non-Aligned Movement, which supports Iran's civilian nuclear activities.
