Rumors on the reshuffle of South Africa's cabinet have been getting stronger for months. Meanwhile, President Jacob Zuma has finally pulled the trigger.

South African Cabinet Officially Reshuffled

Zuma and his cabinet met again with the ANC's top 6 just one day after the funeral of ANC struggle icon and activist Ahmed Kathrada, the president did not attend that funeral at the request of the Kathrada family.

In total 10 ministerial changes [excluding deputy ministers] have been made as part of the reshuffle.

Zuma threw an extreme curveball and instated Minister of Home Affairs Malusi Gigaba as Gordhan's replacement, a decision that is already sending shockwaves across the country.

Gordhan's deputy finance minister Mcebisi Jonas has also been axed, he will be replaced by Sfiso Buthelezi.

It was no secret that Zuma had wanted to get rid of Gordhan for almost a year now. Gordhan was not the president's first choice for finance minister, he was only instated when the rand collapsed after Zuma axed finance minister Nhlanhla Nene in 2015.

Zuma appointed inexperienced Des Van Rooyen who only lasted 4 days in the job. Things got so bad that Zuma had no option but to turn to Gordhan. Things are likely to get even worse.
