Erdogan Blocks Access to Twitter in Turkey

Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan has blocked access to Twitter just hours after threatening to "wipe out" the social media website in Turkey on Friday.
Erdogan threatened to eliminate the Twitter website in Turkey after internet users in recent weeks posted audio recordings and documents showing evidence of government corruption among Erdogan's inner circle.
"We will wipe out Twitter. I do not care what the international community says," he stated.
The disruption of the website sparked a virtual uproar among users, whereby many users trying to access Twitter were confronted with a notice from telecommunications regulator that cited court orders for the closure of the network on Friday.
Erdogan also warned earlier this month that his government could ban the popular social media websites, Youtube and Facebook, after the local elections that are to be held on March 30.
