The British Guardian daily warned Saturday that recent developments in Syria revealed this week that the crisis has full potential to destabilize the Middle East as a whole.

Guardian: Al-Assad’s Army Cohesive, Entire FSA Units Joined Al-Nusra"It is not difficult to war-game a conflict that freewheels over three countries - Iraq, Syria and Lebanon," it added.
According to the daily, "That is why it is right for Barack Obama to resist pressure from Britain and France to arm the rebels, and to instead make another attempt at an internationally brokered settlement with the Russians."

Meanwhile, the daily reiterated that the so-called Free Syrian Army is losing ground and possibly also cohesion - whole units are defecting to al-Nusra terrorist Front.
Claiming that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad may have lost control of much of the country, the daily stressed that "his army has kept its cohesion, it has huge destructive power in reserve, and there is nothing to indicate he will still not be around in a year's time."

It further mentioned that the West's move towards more arming to Syria rebels would be "more than a replay of Iraq."

"It would dramatically increase the daily death toll. It would oblige Iran and Russia to arm al-Assad with heavier weapons," the Guardian said.
In parallel, it wondered "Why would al-Assad, Iran and Hezbollah back down in what would become an existential struggle? And what exactly would that victory look like now?"

"Post-Assad Syria could be Libya writ large," it added.
