Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi stressed Wednesday the necessity for the settlement of Syria's problems by the Muslim country's people.

In a speech at "The Muslim Scolars and Islamic Awakening" Conference, Salehi warned against the spread of the crisis to all parts of the Middle East.
"What is currently going on in Syria as an important country in the region is a threat which would pose a serious challenge to tranquility and security of the entire region," he said.

In parallel, he noted that the solution to the Syrian crisis is merely political, and warned that any move against that direction would further complicate the situation.
"Since the very beginning of the crisis in Syria, the Islamic Republic of Iran called for an end to the conflict and the restoration of calm in this country, and supported democracy and increased people's role in political and social decision-making," Salehi added.

The Iranian top official also highlighted that the use of chemical weapons "by anybody is our red line." He also accused opposition groups of using the chemical agents and demanded a UN probe.

"The Iranian people and its government support Syrian government and nation in their struggles with the enemies of Islamic Resistance," he mentioned.
