Al-Assad: AL Lacks Legitimacy, Doesn’t Represent People

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad slammed the Arab League that lacks legitimacy as it gave Syria's seat to the opposition.
"The Arab League lacks legitimacy. It's a league that represents the Arab states, not the Arab people, so it can't grant or retract legitimacy," al-Assad said in an interview with the Turkish media published on the Syrian presidency's Facebook page on Thursday.
AL-Assad also stated, "Real legitimacy is not accorded by organizations or foreign officials or other country... legitimacy is that which is granted by the people. All these theatrics have no value in our eyes.
"All these shows are worthless according to us," the Syrian leader said, referring to what happen at the Arab summit last week, when Qatar granted Syria's seat at the Arab league to the foreign-backed opposition.
The interview, with Turkey's Ulusal television and Aydinlik newspaper, was conducted on Tuesday and will be aired in full on Friday, the presidency page said.
In extracts published on Wednesday, al-Assad accused Turkish prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan of not having said "a single word of truth since the beginning of the crisis in Syria."
Meanwhile, Syrian state media sharply criticized Jordan for hosting US-backed training of Syrian rebels, warning on Thursday that Amman risks falling into the "volcanic crater" of Syria's conflict.
