Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati emphasized the importance of reaching a consensual electoral law.

Mikati: Gov’t to Remain, Turn the Orthodox Law’s EquationIn remarks to as-Safir Lebanese daily, Mikati confirmed that that "the 1960 electoral law's mechanism is plainly administrative and can't be overpassed."
He further viewed that that he will be the most harmed and affected if this electoral law is adopted.

In response to a question, Mikati reiterated his rejection to the Orthodox Gathering law. In this context, he described the law as paving the way for federalism and cantons as well as and undermining the Taif Accord.
In parallel, the PM urged his critics to turn the equation. "Let the Muslims elect Christian MPs and vice versa according to the currently approved sectarian distribution."

On another level, Mikati stressed that the government will remain and not to step down.
"This government protected the country over the past two years, which were the most difficult, dangerous and complicated stages that the country passed through," he added.
