Lebanese Parliamentary Majority MPs, in a statement read by MP Ibrahim Kanaan after their meeting in the Parliament, stressed the necessity to "respect constitutional due dates and hold elections based on a new law that agrees with just representation and fairness."

It further stated, "Firmly deciding that the Orthodox Law will not pass is a violation to the parliament's authority."

"No one has the right to surpass the authorities of the parliament," it stressed.

The statement further described the decree signed by both Lebanese President Michel Suleiman and Prime Minister Najib Mikati, calling for elections based on 1960 electoral law, as a black day in the history of the executive branch.

Following the meeting, a delegation of the parliament's majority, including MPs Ali Bazzi, Ali Ammar, and Ibrahim Kanaan headed to meet the House Speaker Nabih Berri and deliberate updates regarding the electoral law after Lebanese President Michel Suleiman and Lebanese PM Najib Mikati signed the Electoral Decree.
