The Lebanese Republic's Mufti, Mohammed Rashid Qabbani, sternly responded to campaigns against him, underscoring that he will not back down from protecting Dar al-Fatwa from those who obstruct the Legal Council elections and control its decisions.
In response to the possibility of protests demanding him to step down, the Mufti stated, "Life is full of adversities and lies, and the Mufti does not wish to extend his term," mentioning that "after I finish my term, I will return home and their lies will show."
Qabbani added, "Martyr Rafiq Hariri was a man of his stances, however, what we witness today contradicts the school of Hariri," emphasising that the Mufti organises Muslim's affairs and protects Dar al-Fatwa from those who bid on confiscating its decisions and politicising the Higher Islamic Legal Council's affairs.
The Mufti's speech came after his visit to former Prime Minister Salim al-Hoss in his office, where they had deliberated the Legal Council's elections.
It is noteworthy to mention that Qabbani scheduled the last week of February for the Higher Islamic Legal Council elections.
