Lebanese President Michel Suleiman congratulated Thursday the Lebanese on the occasion of the holidays, hoping that the year ends without any security incidents.
In his statement in the last governmental session in 2012, Suleiman tackled the issue of Lebanese hostages in Syria.
"Does continuing the hostage of the Lebanese benefit or harm the kidnappers," he wondered, and urged the concerned ministerial committee to intensify its efforts to reach a result.
The President further pointed out that "the language of threats must end as it hits the nations' interests and will harm Lebanon more than the kidnappers."
On the file of salaries and ranks, Suleiman highlighted that the "cabinet will complete its procedures in this regard," stressing the need to protect the country from uncalculated steps.
Moving to another livelihood issue, the President stressed the need to appoint a Lebanese University Council that shall study and raise the list of names of professors to be appointed to the government. "The appointments will be accomplished in the new year according to specific mechanism," he said.
On another level, Suleiman expressed hope that efforts intensify to adopt a new electoral law.
"Things are positive on this level," the head of the Lebanese state viewed as he urged Interior Minister Marwan Charbel to logistically prepare for the elections.
"We cannot see Lebanon without dialogue even after a hundred years," he confirmed, and noted that "things won't be right unless all Lebanese factions meet on the dialogue table."
It is worth mentioning that the government decided to allocate a session to discuss the issue of displaced Syrians and Palestinians on 3rd of January.
