Lebanese House Speaker Nabih Berri expressed concern over the high level of Lebanese involvement in the Syrian events, expressing his regret at the recent deaths of a number of Lebanese in the Syrian Tal Kalakh region.
In an interview with as-Safir Lebanese daily, Berri said: "It is difficult that the Lebanese blood is shed in Syria that way."
"What happened confirms once again the necessity of self-dissociation policy, because any other option would be very expensive, and the facts on the ground prove this," the Speaker stressed.
Cautioned that the crisis in Syria is long, Berri warned of the repercussions of the Syrian earthquake on Lebanon as some continue to play on its edge. "We have lost the opportunity to prove our Lebanese personality," he said, and warned that "the period ahead of the next dialogue session, January 7, would be fraught with risks and challenges."
In parallel, he stated that "we must be aware and exercise the highest degree of vigilance to protect the country, in order to keep something for dialogue."
Asked whether he accepted to lift the immunity of MP Okab Saqr, based on the recent sound recordings, Berri said, "If I received a documented file from the public prosecution, I will study it and then do what is necessary."
