Mikati: Lebanon to Continue Self-Dissociation from Syria Crisis
Local Editor
The Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati confirmed Monday that "Lebanon will continue the policy of self-dissociation regarding the Syrian developments."
During a phone conversation with Lebanese Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour, Mikati confirmed: "Lebanon's decision comes regardless of the Arab League Foreign minister's draft resolution."
"The Lebanese position of any issue related to Syria is based on two criteria: the first is to follow the Arab League's decisions, in terms of the implementation of the resolutions, as Lebanon currently heads the group's Council of Foreign Ministers, and the second is self-dissociation from Syria crisis," he explained.
The conversation took place before the FM left for Cairo to join other Arab foreign ministers who are set to gather in Cairo on Monday for talks focused mainly on Syria.
In parallel, head of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas is expected to attend another meeting of Arab foreign ministers to discuss attempts to upgrade the Palestinian status at the UN.
