The Lebanese Army command called on Monday all concerned parties in the country to preserve stability in order to prevent the exploitation of Brigadier General Wissam al-Hassan's assassination for ulterior motives.
As the army lamented the assassination of al-Hassan, it stressed that it "will not allow his death to be turned into an attempt to assassinate the country."
In parallel, the army's command cautioned that "the developments in the past few hours proved, beyond any shadow of doubt, that the homeland is passing through delicate and decisive stage."
"These incidents have reached unprecedented levels," it added.
Meanwhile, the LA command urged all political factions to exercise caution and self-restrain and avoid inflaming the situation.
Furthermore, it urged all political leaderships to
measure their statements with caution "because the country is on edge
and it leaves this matter in the hands of the political authority."
The army stressed that it is committed to its security role to suppress all lawbreakers. "Lebanon's security is a red line which should not be breached," the LA confirmed.
It said in a statement: "We will not allow Lebanon to once again be turned into an open ground for regional conflicts."
"The army is dealing with the situation wisely and not in a reconciliatory manner because it realizes the sensitivity of the situation and political tensions," it explained.
The LA emphasized that it will uphold its role in combating all who want to target civil peace, calling on the citizens, regardless of their affiliations, to exercise "the highest levels of patriotism and exercise restraint.
