Mikati: I Didn’t Submit Resignation, Some Want to Step on State

The Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati unveiled Monday that he hadn't submitted his resignation to President Michel Suleiman following the assassination of Internal Security Forces Information Branch Maj. General Wissam al-Hassan.
In an interview with "as-Safir" Lebanese newspaper, Mikati confirmed that he informed the President that he is ready to resign if the political parties agree on a national unity government.
"It is really sad that some people's slogan to build a state turned suddenly into stepping on the state and intruding the institutions," he stressed.
In parallel, the PM clarified that
when he agreed on the premiership, he was convinced that through this mission he will protect his country and his people, especially those belonging to his sect."
"This was and will remain my main goal in every step until we save Lebanon from its national crisis, that started several years ago," Mikati emphasized.
On another level, Mikati's sources clarified to "as-Safir" that "the fact that both, the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius contacted the PM, after the failing attempt to storm into the Serail, reflects that there is a major international decision to keep and support the government."
