Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi offered his condolences over the bomb attack in the Lebanese capital of Beirut, which targeted top security official Brigadier General Wissam al-Hassan and led to the death and injury of innocent people.
In a telephone conversation with his Lebanese counterpart Foreign Adnan Mansour, Salehi emphasized that enemies seek to increase insecurity in the region and achieve their ill intentions.
In parallel, he stressed "the importance of maintaining unity among all groups and caution in the current sensitive situation of the region."
The Iranian official further voiced "fear that the disagreements between the Lebanese would worsen because there are those who want to exploit the criminal incident."
Salehi told Mansour that he might visit Lebanon on Saturday for a few hours.
For his part, Mansour thanked Salehi and confirmed the importance of consultations between the two countries with the aim of consolidating regional stability and security. He also condemned the explosion and said "it targets Lebanon's stability and security."
Meanwhile, Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast also condemned the blast saying that the attack aimed to sow discord among different currents and social classes in Lebanon.
"Undoubtedly, the main enemy of the Lebanese people and the region is the Zionist regime which benefits from instability and lack of security in the region," he added.
He emphasized the necessity of identifying agents behind the attack and called on the Lebanese people, groups and parties to maintain their vigilance and national unity.
