Syria: Ready to Explore Ceasefire, All Sides Should Comply

The Syrian foreign ministry said Tuesday it looks forward to talks with Brahimi on his proposal for a ceasefire for the four-day Eid al-Adha holiday beginning at the end of October. Ibrahimi has been discussing the suggestion in his regional tour.
Spokesman of the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry Dr. Jihad Makdessi assured Syria's readiness to commitment, affirming that any initiative, regardless of its type, requires commitment by all sides in order for it to succeed. He stressed that the armed groups and their backers should also abide by the cease-fire.
Makdessi said in a statement that the Syrian side is waiting for the arrival of UN Envoy to Syria al-Akhdar Ibrahimi to learn about the results of his recent visits to a number of countries, including countries that have influence over armed groups, reported SANA.
According to the State-run news agency, he voiced hope that Brahimi will bring from these countries something to lead to the success of any constructive initiative, noting that Syria has already shown commitment to Arab and international initiatives that were ultimately foiled by armed groups and the countries that influence them.
"The Syrian side is interested in exploring this option and we are looking forward to talking to Mr. Ibrahimi to see the position of other influential countries that he talked to in his tour," he pointed out.
