In remarks from New York, where the premier is to attend the United Nations General Assembly meeting, Mikati warned that the Lebanese arena is very fragile and greatly affected by any foreign development."
He further acknowledged that "Lebanon is divided between supporters of the Syrian uprising and others who oppose it."

"Thus, we seek to dissociate ourselves from the negative repercussions of the Syrian events," Mikati added.
In parallel, Mikati reiterated his position from the Syrian crisis by saying: "My position is firm and well known since the beginning of the crisis."
"I am against shedding blood as well as the current developments," he stated and declared that " we support what the Syrian people seek."
The Lebanese top official also highlighted that "the best solution for the Syrian crisis is to initiate a dialogue between the opposition and the regime in order to reach an excepted solution that paves the way for Syria to take its democracy during a certain period."

Mikati also mentioned that "this period is to be followed by free elections that would allow the Syrian people to choose what they want."
In the same context, he underscored that " this solution has been submitted since a year and a half without being applied; thus, I expect that it's difficult at this time to end the crisis."
Mikati feared that the bloodshed will get worse.

On the Lebanese government's position from the Syrian crisis, the PM emphasized that "the Lebanese government respects the will of the Syrian people who had and will continue to enjoy strong relations and ties with the Lebanese people."
"No one can alter geography and history," he stressed and wondered "as we aren't able to change the Syrian scene , so why do we have to embroil ourselves in something that does not concern us?"
On another level, Mikati hailed Hizbullah's recent positions.

"Hizbullah's behavior was very wise and vigilant in the last period," he said and noted that "Hizbullah was one of the Lebanese sides which approved Baabda declaration that stressed in one of its items that Lebanon should avoid the policies of axes, regional and international conflicts."

The PM further clarified that the mentioned declaration urged all Lebanese sides to keep Lebanon away from the repercussions of regional tensions and crises."
