Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati headed Monday a series of security meetings in which he tackled the security situation in Tripoli, arbitrary kidnappings and other security and political topics.

In this context, the PM received the Lebanese Army Commander, General Jean Qahwaji, over the progress of the security plan aiming at further army deployment in the Northern capital for more controlled security.
He also asked Interior Minister Marwan Charbel, and Justice Minister, Shakib Qortbawi, to follow up on the case of abductees as well as the Dohet al-Hoss murder which took place over the weekend.

Meanwhile, Head of the EU's External Action Service for the Middle East and Southern Neighborhood, Hugues Mingarelli, met with Mikati. The core of discussions was related to the action plan to be followed until 2014 in the presence of Economy Minister Nicholas Nahhas and EU ambassador to Lebanon Angelina Eichhorst.
For her part, US Ambassador to Lebanon Maura Connelly met with Mikati at the Grand Serail.

As Connelly welcomed the release of kidnapped Lebanese Hussein Ali Omar over the weekend, she condemned the kidnapping of any individual based on nationality, sect, ethnicity or for criminal gain and called for their immediate release.
She further expressed her country's concern with the recent violence in Tripoli.
