The Lebanese President Michel Suleiman assured that the Lebanese Army is above all differences, and is the sole power that protects and builds the country. During the commemoration of the Lebanese Army's 67th anniversary at Shukri Ghanem military barracks in Fayadiyeh, Suleiman stressed that the armed forces will not permit any side from turning Lebanon into a passage to smuggle arms and armed men.

He assured that the army will continue its mission in South Lebanon, which is to confront all "Israeli" aerial violations, and support the UNIFIL in compliance with Resolution 1701, also confront any attempt to breach the blue line. He also believed there is a serious need to provide the army with all its military need.
Moreover, Suleiman highlighting the major duties of the army said "We will continue to protect the border, help the Syrian refugees, combat terrorism and back the security forces in its mission to uphold law and order."

Suleiman emphasized that the army has the sole responsibility of protecting and defending the country's independence and security, reiterating his rejection of the proliferated weapons across the country.
Furthermore, the Lebanese President supported keeping Lebanon neutral from the regional policy of polarization but refused at the same time to neutralize Lebanon from its surrounding and just Arab causes, on top of which is the Palestinian cause. However, Suleiman said he rejected any attempt of settling Palestinians in Lebanon and stressed supporting them in their right to return.
Suleiman stressed the importance of common living under the rules of a one constitution despite the political or sectarian differences, stressing there should be a defense strategy which revolves around the concept of the army's confrontation of the [Israeli] enemy's schemes against Lebanon. He further noted that the army will preserve the country's image, the country where all the Lebanese were born and raised.

"The state will not accept the army to be coerced to abandon its duties from any spot of land in Lebanon. Experience has showed that any region which does not have the army's protection will become exposed," he went on to say.
Suleiman added that any attempt to slander the image of the Lebanese army is doomed to fail. He concluded saying that the army belongs to all the Lebanese irrespective of their religious sects and political affiliation, yet insisting that this institution will not be an easy prey for any party which seeks to discredit it or undermine its achievements.
