During a meeting with the international envoy in Moscow, the Russian President promised Annan support on all levels, warning that "Annan's mission is the last chance for Syria to avoid a bloody civil war."

"That is why Russia is constantly in contact with Kofi Annan and will provide any help on any level it can," he stressed.

For his part, the international envoy noted that "Moscow's help will be vital during his peacekeeping mission to the Arab state."
"We will strive to achieve all six points of the agreed roadmap, including a humanitarian corridor for all in need," Annan explained pointing out that "help and kind advice from Russia are vital during his peacekeeping mission in Damascus."

Earlier the same day, Annan met with the Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov, who called on the envoy "to work just as closely with opposition groups as he does with al-Assad's government."
Lavrov said "the international community has at this point to express support to Annan's mission," emphasizing that "this requires not interfering in Syria's internal affairs and not allowing supporting only one side of the conflict."

He also stressed "the necessity of halting the violence by all the parties in Syria and starting an all-inclusive Syrian political process," calling on "the UN envoy to work effectively whether with the Syrian government or the opposition to realize this goal."
