Russia, Iran Can Play Constructive Role on Syria
Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi stressed that "Tehran and Moscow can play constructive roles in helping the Syrian people settle their internal problems."
During a meeting with Undersecretary of Russia's Security Council Yevgeny Lukyanov, Salehi reiterated that "Iran, Russia and other independent countries can play a constructive role in assisting the Syrian government and nation with overcoming the current crisis in the country and continuing the trend towards political and economic reforms."
Salehi also underlined "the significance of regular consultations between Iranian and Russian officials in dealing with diverse challenges and building on opportunities to serve the interests of both countries."
For his part, the Russian diplomat urged further consultations among the two countries on leading regional and international issues.
Criticizing the "hasty and dual attitude of Western states towards regional developments," Lukyanov noted that "such policies have triggered an economic crisis in different countries."
