Putin won 63.75 percent of the vote in Sunday's polls, well ahead of his nearest rival the Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov who won 17.19 percent, based on a count of the vote from 99.3 percent of polling stations.
"According to the preliminary results, Vladimir Putin has been elected president of the Russian Federation," the head of the central election commission Vladimir Churov told reporters.

"As you can see there will be no second round," he added.

The triumphed Russian president election called his victory a turning point that had prevented the country falling into the hands of enemies as tears were rolling down his cheeks.
"I promised you we would win. We have won. Glory to Russia," Putin told tens of thousands of flag-waving supporters at a late-evening victory rally under the red walls of the Kremlin.

Denouncing attempts to "destroy Russia's statehood and usurp power," he stressed that "the Russian people have shown today that such scenarios will not succeed in our land ... They shall not pass!"
