Thailand Recognizes Palestinian State
Thailand formally announced on Thursday that it recognizes Palestine as an independent state, making it the first to recognize Palestine in 2012.
According to the Palestinian Authority, the Palestinian delegation at the UN received a formal letter from the Thai government, stating that the latter "officially recognized the state of Palestine and officially informed all permanent and observer mission to the United Nations in New York of this development".
The Thai official statement indicated that the Southeast Asian country recognized Palestine in its pre-1967 borders.
Thailand's recognition brings to 131 the number of countries that have so far recognized an independent Palestinian state.
