The US War Minister Leon Panetta warned that the "Israeli" entity is facing growing "isolation" in the Middle East, calling upon it to adopt diplomatic steps to tackle this issue.

During an event organized on Friday by the Brookings Institution's Saban Center for the Middle East, Panetta stated, "Over the past year, we've seen "Israel's" isolation from its traditional security partners in the region grow".
Moreover, he added that Tel Aviv should renew its talks with the Palestinians, and "mend fences" with Egypt and Turkey, in order to control and put an end for this isolation, Agence France Press reported.

The US War Minister acknowledged that Tel Aviv was witnessing an "international campaign" designed to isolate it.
"The pursuit of a comprehensive Middle East peace has effectively been put on hold", Panetta indicated, further adding that the "Israeli" entity needs to "lean forward on efforts to achieve peace with the Palestinians".

Furthermore, in his speech, Panetta made one of his most extensive arguments against any imminent military action against Iran over its nuclear program, Reuters reported.

In this context, Panetta stressed that that sanctions and diplomatic pressure were leading to some results in this regard.
"You always have the last resort... of military action. But it must be the last resort, not the first", Panetta iterated.
