OWS Protesters Head Towards NY’s Brooklyn Bridge, Arrests Increase
On the two-month anniversary of the first encampment in New York's financial district, hundreds of protesters attempted to march on the stock exchange. According to the BBC, this comes two days after the authorities cleared the encampment in NY's Zuccotti Park that sparked global protest movement against corporate greed.
As protesters went to the streets of the US on the two-month anniversary, the Police Departments attacked them, reporting some 200 arrests.
BBC correspondents taking part in New York protests tweeted details of the demonstrations as they took place.
David Botti from BBC on the ground in New York "tweeted" info about students marching towards the Union Square.
Also, BBC's Laura Trevelyan tweeted that protesters are leaving Zucotti Park after being evacuated by the police, towards the Union Square to occupy the subway station.
She added that NYPD helicopters are hovering overhead as protesters march
towards the Brooklyn Bridge for a mass-gathering there.
The New York Daily News reported that about 700 people gathered in Union Square.
Moreover, the daily added that more than 1,000 people are already on the Brooklyn Bridge, including a marching band.
Protesters had vowed that their Thursday mass-protest will aim at closing down the Wall Street, and marching towards the Brooklyn Bridge.
An Occupy Wall Street protester following the Occupy Wall Street Protests on twitter posted, "This is not the first time protesters have tried to march across the Brooklyn Bridge. At the beginning of October, a march there ended with the arrest of 700 people. It drew the world's attention to the Occupy movement. Today, signs at the bridge warn demonstrators will be detained if they go on to the bridge road."
On her part, Katie Fleming from Brooklyn, New York posted on twitter Thursday, "This morning was my first experiencing this protest. I became very emotional listening to the crowd belittle the NYPD as they pushed us onto the sidewalks but was inspired by the few who were able to communicate in the crowd and lead our chants and actions. We must continue to represent the discontent in America".
Furthermore, in the US capital, Washington DC, protesters are planning to march from their encampment at McPherson Square to the Key Bridge in Georgetown, which they said was a symbol of America's crumbling infrastructure.
The US citizens have finally realized the corrupted "corporate" system their country is being ruled by. They woke up, and are now demanding their right to freedom from this ruling system.
