Report: Sarkozy Calls Netanyahu “Liar” in “Made Public” Private Talk with Obama
Local Editor
According to a Monday report published on the French "Arret sur Images" website, French President Nicolas Sarkozy told US President Barack Obama that he couldn't stand Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, describing him as a "liar".
"Israeli" news website Ynet stated that the conversation apparently began with President Obama criticizing Sarkozy for not warning the US that France would vote in favor for the Palestinian statehood bid at the UNESCO.
The report added that this conversation took part on the sidelines of the G20 summit in France. Afterwards the conversation drifted to Netanyahu, when Sarkozy told Obama, "I cannot stand him. He is a liar". On his part, Obama replied according to the report, "You're fed up with him, but I have to deal with him every day!"
The western leaders did not know that their microphones were on; therefore their supposed private conversation was made embarrassingly public.
Journalists present at the summit could confirm the comments made by US and French presidents, however; they agreed not to publish the leak due to the sensitivity of the issue.
