Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Lebanese counterpart Michel Suleiman tackled the most important issues and regional developments at a Tuesday meeting in New York. Both stressed the need for awareness and vigilance of the people in light of the current developments, and emphasized the development of bilateral relations between the two countries.

The Iranian president underscored the role of resistance as the only way for the people of the region to achieve victory in face of the dominance of the authoritarian regime.

He made the remarks as the two presidents urged regional countries to remain vigilant as developments unfold in the Middle East and North Africa.
Ahmadinejad noted that the former colonial powers are using human rights as a tool to "achieve their colonial objectives" and "plunder the interests and wealth of the nations."

He further stated that arrogant powers are struggling to sow the seeds of division among nations to "salvage the Zionist regime and their failing economy," but the "nations are now awakened" and that the hegemonic powers will fail.

President Ahmadinejad pointed to the "common interests and enemies," of Iran and Lebanon, and noted that the expansion of Tehran-Beirut ties will help establish peace and security in the region.

Suleiman, for his part, said that relations between the two countries favor resistance (against the "Israeli" enemy) and the interests of regional states. He called for unity among all nations against plots hatched by enemies, saying that nations should maintain vigilance against the schemes of their foes.
